At G Ratings, we conducted a statewide public opinion survey to measure the political climate and voter preferences ahead of the 2026 Texas Governor General Election.
We surveyed adults aged 18 and older residing in Texas who confirmed that they were registered to vote and intended to participate in the upcoming election.
In this study, we present the latest findings on voter preference, political affiliation, the issues Texans consider most important, and the demographic profile of respondents.
The survey shows Greg Abbott leading the race with 48.1%, followed by Gina Hinojosa with 42.3%, while a small percentage of voters remain undecided.
General Election Preference for Governor
If the 2026 general election for Governor of Texas were held today, respondents expressed the following voting preferences:
- Greg Abbott: 48.1%
- Gina Hinojosa: 42.3%
- Undecided: 5.8%
- Other or None: 2.4%
- Pat Dixon: 1.4%
The results indicate that Greg Abbott begins the general election campaign with an advantage, although Gina Hinojosa remains within striking distance in what could become a competitive statewide race.
Political Affiliation of Respondents
At G Ratings, we also measured the political affiliation of survey participants. The results reflect a politically competitive electorate with a significant independent voting bloc.
- Republican affiliation: 41.3%
- Independent or other affiliation: 29.6%
- Democratic affiliation: 29.1%
This distribution highlights the importance of independent voters, who could play a decisive role in the outcome of the 2026 election.
Main Issues Facing Texas
We surveyed respondents about the issue they consider most important facing Texas today. The economy continues to dominate voter concerns.
- Economy, jobs, inflation, and taxes: 41.0%

- Something else: 7.5%
- Healthcare: 6.8%
- State of democracy: 5.3%

The findings suggest that economic conditions and border-related issues continue to define the political conversation in Texas as voters prepare for the 2026 gubernatorial election.

Methodology
At G Ratings, we conducted this survey among 825 complete questionnaires from adults aged 18 and older residing in Texas.
Fieldwork was conducted between June 16 and June 21, 2026. During this period, participants confirmed that they were registered to vote and intended to participate in the upcoming election.
The study used a non-probability sample design, balanced by relevant demographic and geographic variables, including gender, age group, region, education level, and ethnicity.
This process employed Odysseus, a technological platform developed by G Ratings by GobernArte S.C., incorporating algorithmic models designed to ensure a distribution consistent with reference population parameters.
Data collection was conducted through self-administered digital questionnaires accessible on mobile devices and computers. The survey was administered in English.
For a sample size of 825 questionnaires, the theoretical margin of error is estimated between ±3.5% and ±5%, assuming a 95% confidence level and simple random sampling. Because this study uses a non-probability design, the margin of error should be interpreted as an approximate statistical reference rather than an exact estimate of total study error.
The estimated refusal rate was approximately 50%, based on eligible individuals who received the invitation but did not complete the survey.
